For the first time since the 2019 World Cup, Bangladesh and New Zealand will clash in an ODI in the land of the Kiwis on 20th March 2021. The ODI series will be a three-match affair, with the second and third ODI matches slated to be played on 23rd and 26th March respectively.
This will Bangladesh’s first away tour of 2021. The Kiwis have been dominant against Bangladesh in the ODI format, and have won the last 4 matches that have taken place between the two sides. New Zealand will be without their talisman and skipper Kane Williamson, as the batting legend is nursing an elbow injury. Also, Ross Taylor will not be available for the first ODI, as the veteran batsman has not yet fully recovered from a tear in his hamstring.
Bangladesh will be led by experienced opening batsman Tamim Iqbal. They also have the likes of Soumya Sarkar and the flamboyant Mushfiqur Rahim in their ranks. However, they will be without legendary all-rounder Shakib al Hasan, who is currently enjoying some personal time after the birth of his child. Even though the Black Caps will start as the favorites, the visitors will surely give a tough fight in the series.
Pitch and conditions
The pitch at the University Oval in Dunedin is one that will keep both the batsmen and bowlers interested. The ball will nip around early on for the seamers, and it will be pivotal for the batsmen to play the waiting game.
