When furious MS Dhoni stormed onto the field to confront umpires over no-ball decision
MS Dhoni's old video went viral as DC skipper Rishabh Pant sent assistant coach Pravin Amre onto the field.
The high-scoring thriller between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals was halted for a while as a controversy took center stage in the final over. RR pacer Obed McCoy delivered a high full-toss which Rovman Powell dispatched for a maximum. As the on-field umpires didn’t adjudge the delivery of a no-ball, the DC camp was amused. Skipper Rishabh Pant even tried to seemingly call players back and forfeit the game.
He even sent the team’s assistant coach Pravin Amre to the field to convey his stance. The scenes were unfortunate indeed as the game was halted for a while and there was tension in both camps. Fortunately, the contest eventually resumed and RR, who was defending 222 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, recorded a 15-run win.
When MS Dhoni lost his cool!
However, more than the outcome of the game, the no-ball controversy and Pant’s behavior garnered attention. While a third member of the batting side entering the field midway through an over is a rare scene, fans have seen such an instance in IPL before. It was the game between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in 2019 and it was none other than MS Dhoni, who lost his cool and stormed into the field.
Incidentally, that controversy also took place over a no-ball decision in the final over of the game. Ben Stokes delivered a high full-toss which was deemed legitimate by the on-field umpires. What followed next was unthinkable, as Dhoni furiously entered the ground and argued with the umpires for a while. Although there was no change in the decision, CSK eventually won that contest by four wickets.
As Amre stormed into the field to oppose the umpire’s decision, Dhoni’s old clip went viral as fans recalled the former CSK skipper’s infamous actions. It must be noted that Dhoni is known for his calm demeanor and seldom one will see him losing his temper on the field. However, such was the significance of the decision that even the talismanic wicketkeeper-batter did the unthinkable.
