Playing in a local T20 match, Delhi cricketer Mohit Ahlawat made his way into the record books after becoming the first player to smash a triple century in a T20 match. The knock came at a time when the North Zone selectors were picking the squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy and there was a huge buzz surrounding the 21 years old youngster.
His unbelievable innings of 300 not out, came in a mere 72 deliveries which were studded with 14 fours and 39 hits over the fence. According to reports, the ground was bigger compared to other grounds where records have been made. Courtesy his sublime knock, Ahlawat received a call-up from the Delhi Daredevils camp late in the evening for a trial on Wednesday. The match was being played at Lalita Park in East Delhi.
The swashbuckler made his first-class debut in November 2015 but couldn’t quite capitalise on his break and failed to score in his first three outings. He has in the shadows ever since then but has again made a strong case for himself after smashing that amazing knock. It’s just another game for Ahlawat in the season where he has swapped from team to team to get maximum match exposure. This time he received a call up from the Maavi XI to play for them against the Friends XI in the quarter-final of the Friends Premier League.
“Bhaiya, bas khelne bulaya thha, toh main chala gaya (They invited me to play and I simply went). It’s good that something like that has happened,” Ahlawat was quoted as saying by the Times of India. It was during the 11th over when he realised that something special was in the offering and he should grab it with both hands. That was the time when he really went berserk and smashed the bowlers all around the park.

When I reached 150, I told myself 250 was there for the taking. So I told my partner at the other end that I was going to take most of the strike,” he told TOI. He also added that failure have only toughened him up and he will keep working hard. When Ahlawat was included in the Ranji squad he didn’t have any experience of playing age –group cricket.
