When Shimron Hetmyer’s wicket celebration left Windies red-faced
Hetmyer caused quite some embarrassment with that.

The Windies have not had a happy tour of the subcontinent as they were pummelled by teams like India and Bangladesh with ease in all the Test matches they played here. However, in addition to the losses, there were also instances where the Caribbeans let them down with misfires. One such moment was caught during the second Test against Bangladesh in Mirpur and the ‘culprit’ on the occasion was Shimron Hetmyer, one of the best batsmen in the current Windies team.
It was early on Day 2 of the Test when Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah were batting. Windies pacer Kemar Roach was running in with the ball. Mahmudullah was on the strike and he edged the fourth delivery of the over to the slips. Hetmyer was in the second slip and he picked the ball but only after it hit the ground.
The fielder was convinced to have taken a clear catch but his teammates and the umpire looked uninterested. The bowler also looked confused as to what had happened. The third umpire’s help was sought anyhow and the replay clearly showed that the ball bounced off the ground before the fielder grabbed it.
Hetmyer though had a good game with bat
Hetmyer’s premature celebration was clearly a moment of embarrassment for the visitors who were thumped in the game by an innings and 184 runs by Bangladesh who won the series 2-0. The 21-year-old, however, had a good game with the bat as he scored 39 and 93 in the two innings after Bangladesh posted a big total of 508 and made the Windies bat twice after enforcing the follow-on.
Here is the video of the catch:
Mahmudullah went to hit a century in the match while Hetmyer was the top scorer for the Caribbeans in both innings. Spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz took 12 wickets in the game to be adjudged the Man of the Match.
Windies lost a two-match series against India 0-2 in October and won just one game in their entire tour which was an ODI. They landed in Bangladesh and lost the first Test to the hosts in Chittagong by 64 runs despite being in the game for a long time.
