'When we go out, it is like we need to prove people wrong' - David Warner points out similarities between him and Virat Kohli

Australia opener David Warner and India captain Virat Kohli have always been aggressive on the field. The duo has even had a go at each other before while playing for their respective country. However, off the field, they have been really good friends. Both of them always thrive to be the best in the middle and according to Warner, this is what is similar between him and Kohli.

The southpaw feels that they are always out to prove someone wrong for the way they play. It is always about being a better player than the other in the middle and it is the passion for the game which drives them to give their 100% every time for their team and the country.

“I can’t speak for Virat, obviously, but it’s almost like we got this thing in us when we go (out to the middle) we need to prove people wrong, prove someone wrong. If you’re in that contest, and if I’m going at him for example, you’re thinking, ‘Alright, I’m going to score more runs than him, I’m going to take a quick single on him. You are trying to better that person in that game. That’s where the passion comes from,” David Warner was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

David Warner opens up on India vs Australia series

According to the current schedule, team India is scheduled to tour Australia later this year and it is expected to be a fierce battle between the two strong sides. However, the tour isn’t finalised yet with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. But David Warner opened up on the small battles which keep the players going during the series.

“Obviously you want to win the game but you almost break it down to, If I can score more runs than Virat, or if Pujara scores more runs than Steve Smith, you have these little contests and that’s how you try to narrow the game in the sense that if we do these little things, we can be ahead of the game or we can be behind the game.

The passion is driven by…I know my sense – one, the will to win and two, wanting to do better than that person in the opposition,” he further said.
