Eleven years ago, Virat Kohli led India to a title win in the ICC U19 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Today, he is about to lead India’s senior team to a World Cup starting next month. A number of other members of that Indian colts’ squad have gone on to establish themselves in the senior team and are currently playing for various teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). One of Kohli’s mates in that 2008 team, Shreevats Goswami, is also part of the IPL 2019 and is in the Sunrisers Hyderabad squad.
Goswami, who has played for a number of IPL teams over the years, recently spoke on various issues, including staying in touch with his mates from the 2008 team and also his own growth as a cricketer. Goswami, now 29, hasn’t yet played for India even though he has an impressive career in domestic cricket.
Speaking to Times of India, Shreevats Goswami was delighted about the fact that most of the players from the U19 squad that won the World Cup and are making a name for themselves at the top level. He also acknowledged that two more players are his teammates in the SRH team while also revealing the way he stays in touch with Virat Kohli.
Everyone from that team is playing
“The best thing about that team is that everyone is playing. Everyone has made a name for themselves somewhere or the other. All eleven cannot play for the country from the same batch. It’s difficult. There are so many people playing cricket in India. I think the best thing about that team is that we all are still friends.
Manish Pandey is in my team (SRH), Siddharth (Kaul) we play together. Three of us are in Hyderabad. I am in touch with Virat. Whenever he does well I send him a text. Whenever we meet we meet nicely. The best thing about that batch was and is our friendship,” Shreevats Goswami said.
As far as the opportunities is concerned, the left-hander is yet to get a chance this year in the IPL and it remains to be seen if the team prefers him ahead of Wridhhiman Saha after Jonny Bairstow leaves.
