'Where is he?' - Twitter not happy with Yuzvendra Chahal not getting picked for West Indies T20Is
Ravichandran Ashwin is back in the Indian T20I squad for the Caribbean tour.
India announced their 18-member squad for the T20I series in the upcoming tour of West Indies, which will commence on July 29. The star Indian spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, who recently played in the T20I series in England, did not make the squad for the West Indies tour for the five T20Is. And that has taken the fans by surprise.
Chahal was the highest wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, which ended in May, and was selected for India’s every T20I series ever since. He picked up six wickets in four innings against South Africa at a strike rate of 14.1, an economy rate of 8.18 and an average of 19.33. In his two games against England, he picked up four wickets at an average of 10.50, an economy rate of 7.00 and a strike rate of 9.0.
Internet shocked by Chahal’s omission
In the IPL 2022, he bagged 27 wickets in 17 games with an economy rate of 7.75, an average of 19.52 and a strike rate of 15.11 for Rajasthan Royals. In 2022, for India, he has taken 15 wickets in 12 games with an average of 18.13, an economy rate of 7.12 and a strike rate of 15.2. It is safe to say that he has had an impressive in T20 cricket overall.
Chahal made his T20I debut in June 2016 and has got 79 wickets in 72 games so far, at an average of 23.94, an economy rate of 8.09 and a strike rate of 17.7. He has been an integral part of the Indian team in white ball cricket for the last four years or so. He had a slight slump in 2021 as he was dropped for a short period and also failed to make the T20 World Cup squad in 2021.
The spinners for the T20I squad against West Indies are Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi. Star batter KL Rahul, who was out of the team due to a groin injury, is back in the squad, while Virat Kohli has been rested. Youngsters such as Arshdeep Singh, and Avesh Khan also made the cut while Umran Malik has been left out.
