Mumbai Indians have been in the headlines ever since they grabbed the services of Chris Lynn at his base price of 2 Crores INR. Given that the Australian player was the first player to be auctioned, many fans expected him to fetch more amount than he actually did. The cricket universe also witnessed a banter between Chris Lynn and Jasprit Bumrah on Twitter.
Now, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has reacted to the team’s auction as he sent out an interesting message during the team’s live video on Instagram. Looking at how Mumbai stacked up their resources after the IPL 2020 Auction, the captain was confused whether or not he will open the innings for his home franchise once again in IPL 2020.
“Where will Rohit Sharma bat?” – Mumbai Indians captain is clueless
Ahead of the auction, Mumbai Indians already had Suryakumar Yadav, Quinton de Kock, Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya in their squad. They possessed the mightiest batting line-up yet the team management decided to add the duo of Chris Lynn and Saurabh Tiwary to the batting unit. This move puzzled the cricket world because the Mahela Jayawardene-coached franchise will face a lot of selection issues now.
They might not want to bench Chris Lynn given how talented he is but at the same time, they cannot drop either Quinton de Kock or Rohit Sharma from the playing XI. Besides, de Kock and Rohit are proven match-winners in T20 cricket and, they do not fare well lower down the order.
Even if Mumbai decide to demote Rohit Sharma then they will have to exclude either Ishan Kishan or Suryakumar Yadav from the match squad. Both the domestic talents have been incredible in the league and they can walk into any IPL team. Hence, it will be very tough to form a proper batting structure.
Mumbai Indians’ captain, Rohit Sharma too felt the same as he tried to pull the leg of the team officials by asking them publicly “Where will Rohit Sharma bat?”. He sent out this message in the form of a reply to Mumbai Indians’ post auction live video.
