Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have hogged the headlines ever since the Koffee with Karan featuring the duo has been aired on Sunday. Their derogatory comments, especially the former’s, have not gone down well with the many and the repercussions of the same have followed as well. The CoA chief Vinod Rai has suspended the duo pending inquiry and are returning home from Australia. However, the BCCI treasurer Anirudh Chaudhry has questioned the CoA asking who gave them the permission to appear on the talk show.
Earlier Vinod Rai, CoA chief, had recommended a two-match ban on Rahul and Pandya both and was awaiting the approval of Diana Edulji, the other CoA member. She sought a legal opinion on the matter and also asked the BCCI treasurer about his views. He recommended a strict action on the under-scanner cricketers and also put light over the latest rules of the BCCI contracts.
Was such a permission sought?
Anirudh Choudhry has asked the CoA if the KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya had sought any permission before appearing on the talk show. If they had asked, then who granted them the same is his question to them. Moreover, he also went on to say that according to previous BCCI contracts, a player can’t appear on any show without a proper permission.
“I do not have the latest version of the BCCI contracts available with me and request that a copy of the same be provided to me. However, the provisions of the earlier contracts and the practice in place would have required these contracted players to seek permission to appear on the show. Was such a permission sought? Was such a permission granted? If so, by whom?” his reply to the CoA read according to the Times of India.
He also felt for the sports journalist who doesn’t get easy access to the players and was perplexed over the fact that Karan Johar got it easily. “It is very unfair that sports journalists who are essentially the people who bring the sport and the stories surrounding the sport to the fans and play a part in ensuring the popularity of the sport, do not get access to these players for interviews but Karan Johar was able to get the access,” Anirudh further wrote.
