'Who wouldn’t like to throw his hat for the best team in the world?' - Lance Klusener reveals whether he will take up Indian Head Coach role

The term of the current Indian Head Coach Ravi Shastri comes to an end after the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup, and the BCCI will soon take a decision on who will replace the outgoing Shastri as the next Head Coach of the Virat Kohli led side.

It was reported that Mahela Jayawardene was approached for the role, Anil Kumble’s name is doing the rounds, and even Rahul Dravid’s name has cropped up. And now, former South African all-rounder Lance Klusener has opened up on the prospects of coaching the Indian cricket team.

Klusener stated that everyone would like to throw their hat in the ring to coach the best cricket team in the world. The 50-year-old also added that South African people such as Gary Kirsten and Paddy Upton have had successful stints with the Indian side in the past.

“Who wouldn’t like to put in his hat for the best cricket team in the world? That would be obviously something huge and we’ve had South Africans that’s been extremely successful with the Indian team, likes of Gary Kirsten and his partner Paddy Upton,” said Lance Klusener to CricketCountry.

I have got a soft spot for the people of Afghanistan: Lance Klusener

Lance Klusener also added that his current focus is on coaching the Afghanistan cricket team, and revealed that he has got a soft corner for the people from Afghanistan. Klusener further hinted that he would like to continue his association with the Afghanistan side.

“My focus is on Afghanistan, my contract’s also coming up in December. I’ve got a soft spot for the people of Afghanistan and maybe there’s an option to continue with them,” said Lance Klusener.

Lance Klusener further added that the Afghanistan side has several match-winners in its ranks, and is not dependent only on the likes of Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi alone.

“A year and a half ago we were very reliant on Rashid (Khan), Mujeeb (Ur Rahman), who was on the top of the game, (Mohammed) Nabi, one of the best all-rounders. But now we’ve developed some youngsters, who are match-winners in themselves,” concluded Klusener.
