Royal Challengers Bangalore will ditch their regular red and black attire and sport a green jersey during the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday (May 8). Since 2011, the Bengaluru-based team has been donning the green jersey once a season to raise awareness about a greener and more sustainable environment. It’s apparently a part of the franchise’s ‘Go Green’ initiative.
Instead of sporting a green jersey in IPL 2021, RCB sported a blue kit in a game, paying tribute to the frontline workers for their sacrifice and efforts during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. RCB are now back with the green kit and the players would be raring to make a mark in the special jersey.
Go Green sustainability initiative has been a huge part of our RCB culture: Virat Kohli
Meanwhile, the franchise’s official Twitter handle shared a video on the eve of the game wherein players can be seen emphasizing the importance of a greener atmosphere. “The Go Green sustainability initiative has been a huge part of our RCB culture since 2011. Over the years you’ve seen RCB sport the green jersey in a day game at the Chinnaswamy Stadium to create awareness around a greener and more sustainable planet earth,” said Virat Kohli in the clip.
“Continuing the ‘Go Green’ cause that we truly believe in, RCB will be wearing the green match kits on 8th of May when we take on Sunrisers Hyderabad,” he added.
Continuing the #GoGreen sustainability initiative that we started in 2011, #RCB players would be wearing Green Match Kits when they step onto the field this Sunday against SRH at 3:30 PM IST. Two wins in 10 games for RCB in greens
Meanwhile, this special jersey hasn’t really wielded great results for Bangalore and numbers narrate the entire story. So far, the side has won just two of their 10 games in green while a clash got washed out due to rain. Hence, the Faf du Plessis-led side would like to produce a clinical performance against SRH to enhance this record.
