Why Sachin Tendulkar hasn't been inducted into ICC Hall of Fame yet? Here's the reason
Dravid made it to the elite list before Sachin.
The former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid was welcomed into the ICC Hall of Fame on Thursday ahead of the fifth and final ODI between India and Windies. Legendary cricketer and now commentator Sunil Gavaskar commemorated the famous ‘Wall’ of cricket just before the start of the game. The ICC had announced Dravid’s induction in the Hall of Fame in July this year.
Dravid has been the unsung hero of the Indian cricket. He did whatever team required him to do, also taking up wicketkeeping before the country found MS Dhoni in the early 2000s. Moreover, he amassed more than 24,000 runs during his illustrious career before hanging his boots in 2012.
Meanwhile, there are doubts over Sachin Tendulkar not being included in the famous list yet despite serving the game for close to 24 years.
What is the reason?
There are certain rules to get nominated or even inducted into the Hall of Fame of the ICC. A batsman can qualify for the same if he/she has scored more than 8000 runs and 20 centuries in any of the two major formats – Tests or One-Day Internationals or have an average of over 50 in either.
While Dravid perfectly fits into the criteria, even Sachin also makes it to the list comfortably. Sachin has a plethora of records to his name with 18,426 runs in ODIs and 15,921 runs in Tests. He also has an unimaginable record of 100 international centuries to his name. Then why he is yet to be inducted into Hall of Fame.
However, another rule of ICC to be eligible for it is, the player shouldn’t have played any international game for more than five years prior to the nomination. Sachin Tendulkar retired from international cricket on November 16, 2013, which is the reason he is still not eligible to make it to the Hall of Fame. There is no doubt that he will make it to the elite list soon.
