England suffered a 2-3 defeat in the recently-concluded T20I series against West Indies. T20 cricket was certainly at its best in the series as some exciting contest was on display. The fifth T20I, which was the decider, also went right down to the wire but Jason Holder’s double hat-trick and five-wicket haul ensured a 17-run win for the Men in Maroon.
Meanwhile, players weren’t the only ones hogging limelight in the game. Former England pacer Steve Harmison was in the commentary box during the game and he had a slip of tongue. As mentioned above, momentum was riding on a rollercoaster throughout the clash. Emotions got the better of Harmison as he made a humorous error on live air.
Steve Harmison’s tongue slips once again
Addressing co-commentator Ian Bishop, Harmison was providing analysis over a scenario when he said “I think that’s a bit of inexperience b*tch… Bish.” The former England speedster was left evidently embarrassed as he awkwardly stumble through his next few words. In order to lighten up the atmosphere, Bishop said: “I’m gone, I’m totally gone.”
“I expected a lot better from you Steve Harmison, I’ve been called a lot of things,” he added. These comments brought laughter in the box before Bishop changed the subject by saying: “Well thank goodness it’s the half-way mark of the innings, it’s 78-2.”
It must be noted that Harmison made the same gaffe during the fourth and penultimate T20I of the series. On that occasion, former England wicketkeeper-batter Mark Butch was accompanying him in the commentary box.
“B*tch, um Butch, ah I’ve done it again. My head’s gone,” said Harmison to his co-commentator. Like Bishop, Butcher also extended the banter by saying: “Butch and Bish – it’s killing you isn’t it?” Meanwhile, West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard was delighted with his side’s performance as he highlighted the fact that many had given up on this team.
“It’s wonderful, many have given up on this team, but every single individual has rallied around, there have been a lot of negative things written about us, but this win is for everyone out in the dressing room. They have worked tirelessly coming from Jamaica (after the Ireland series), and have bounced back pretty well,” said a delighted Pollard after the game.
