After a successful 2-1 ODI series triumph in England, a spirited Team India would now be eyeing back-to-back series victories in this format when they lock horns with the West Indies in the three-match ODI series starting Friday, July 22. The Indian team would be heading to the Caribbean oozing with confidence having registered their first One Day series win on English soil after 2014.
Senior opener Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the Indian team in the ODI series while star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will be his deputy. Regular skipper Rohit Sharma has been rested for this series but will be back to lead the Men in Blue from the front in the five-match T20I series. Even vice-captain KL Rahul and wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav will be back for the T20I series, but their participation is subject to fitness.
With key players including the likes of batting megastar Virat Kohli, pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant rested, it would be an opportunity for some of the players, especially the bench strength to show their cricketing potential.
This will be a good opportunity for the West Indies to challenge a second-string Indian side as they look to rediscover their rhythm in the 50-overs format having suffered a 0-3 whitewash at the hands of Bangladesh at home recently.
