West Indies managed to get over the line against the Indian side in the second T20I and have leveled the series 1-1 at Warner Park in St. Kitts. Obed McCoy was rewarded with the player of the match for his brilliant spell of bowling and he started the assault by picking up Rohit Sharma the very first ball of the game. The left-arm seamer went to bag six wickets in the game and registered the best figures ever by a bowler for West Indies in T20 internationals with 6 for 17 in his 4 overs.
Noted to be a T20 specialist, McCoy made his T20I debut in 2019, and so far he has played 18 games picking up 29 wickets at an average of 15.48. The 25-year-old has been bowling the tough overs for the West Indies side and a fifer against a quality Indian batting lineup will do wonders for his confidence. McCoy after bagging the player of the match award delivered an emotional speech.
My mom has motivated me to be a better player: Obed McCoy
McCoy stated that he wants to dedicate the special moment to his sick mother who has always motivated him to become a better player. He revealed his strategy of going for wickets in powerplay and felt that he strayed away in the previous game after overthinking. He was delighted with the experience and challenges that have come to the fore in recent times.
“This is for my mom. She is sick and she has motivated me to be a better player. The first ball wicket put pressure on the batsmen. I always look for wickets in the powerplay. I went in with a clean mind. In the previous game, I was overthinking a bit. It gives me a challenge and I am just thankful for all the experiences and the challenges”, McCoy told in the post-match conference.
The series is well poised at 1-1 with three more games to go and the third T20I between India and West Indies takes place at Warner Park in St.Kitts on August 2.
