Rishabh Pant might have been India’s savior with the bat in the first innings, but one of his actions left skipper Rohit Sharma annoyed during the fourth T20I against the West Indies at Central Broward Park Lauderhill, Florida on Saturday, August 6. This happened because Pant intentionally took some time to inflict a run-out.

The stumper’s act behind the stumps might not have done any damage as the batter was way short of the crease when the stumps were dislodged, but this did not go down well with Rohit who gave the youngster a sound scolding for his carelessness which could have otherwise proved to be costly.

The incident happened in the fifth over of the West Indies run chase. On the final delivery of that over, captain Nicholas Pooran tapped one off a delivery bowled by Axar Patel and set off for a non-existent single. Unfortunately for him, his batting partner Kyle Mayers had no interest in that risky single after running a bit and went back to the non-strikers’ end as Pooran had already reached the other side.

Pooran who was stranded mid-way on the pitch tried his level best to get back to the strikers’ end, but that was not to be as Sanju Samson quickly collected the ball and passed it to Rishabh who waited for a while before whipping off the bails. The Indian players started celebrating but, a furious Rohit walked down all the way to the strikers’ end and gave a mouthful to Pant.

Pooran was looking well-set in the middle having scored 24 runs off just eight deliveries that included four and three sixes at a phenomenal strike rate of 300 and his dismissal at the wrong time left the hosts in all sorts of trouble chasing a stiff target of 192.

The two-time T20 world champions were eventually bundled out for 132 in the final over as India registered a convincing 59-run victory to seal the five-match series 3-1.
