WI vs IND: Sanju Samson gets rousing reception in Florida after being named in India's XI for 4th T20I
Samson scored an unbeaten 23-ball 30 in the fourth T20I.
Sanju Samson has been in and out of the Indian team ever since he made his international debut in 2015. However, the Kerala cricketer got a rousing reception from the Florida crowd when his name was taken by skipper Rohit Sharma while he was announcing the team at the toss.
Samson got a chance in India’s playing XI in the fourth T20I at Central Broward Park Lauderhill on Saturday, August 7.As soon as the Kerala cricketer’s name was announced there was a huge cheer for him. In fact, a section of the crowd had also held a poster to cheer for Sanju Samson.
“We have got three changes. We have got Ravi Bishnoi coming in, Axar Patel coming in and Sanju Samson in place of Hardik (Pandya)”, Rohit said.
Sanju Samson plays an amazing cameo
Samson got plenty of love and support from the Florida crowd ahead of the contest and he ensured that he did not let them down when it was his turn to bat. He played a finisher’s role to perfection by scoring some precious runs in the middle and death overs and at the same time, did not get carried away when wickets began to fall at the other end.
The Kerala stumper scored an unbeaten 30 runs off 23 deliveries at an outstanding strike rate of 130.4, including two fours and a six. His impactful knock powered the Men in Blue to a stiff total of 191/5. The total proved to be more than enough as the hosts could only manage 132 and were bundled out in the final over.
There was absolutely no fightback whatsoever from the Windies barring captain Nicholas Pooran and Rovman Powell who scored 24 each in what was otherwise a sorry-looking scorecard for them. Thus, India registered a comprehensive 59-run victory to seal the five-match series 3-1. Sanju Samson would be expected to showcase an even better performance in the fifth and final T20I on Sunday, August 7.
