WI vs NZ Team Preview:
On Monday (August 15), West Indies and New Zealand will face each other in the third T20I match of the ongoing T20I series at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados. New Zealand won the first two matches of the series to earn an unassailable lead in the series. They might make a few changes in the playing 11 and give the players sitting on the bench a chance to showcase their skills. This series will be followed by a three-match ODI series which will be starting on August 17 and all the matches will be played in Barbados.
The think tank of West Indies have a lot of questions to answer after losing yet another series. The two-time World T20 champions have not been able to find their mojo in recent times. West Indies have managed to win only 6 out of 18 T20Is this year, hence, they need to take a step back and make some changes to their strategy. One of the main reasons behind their failure this year has been the sync between the batting and bowling unit. Bowlers have had a disappointing run when batters have delivered exceptional performance and vice-versa. They have failed to chase the target in the last 4 out of 5 matches which indicates that a strategic change in the batting approach is the need of the hour. They need to gel together and perform as a unit if they want to succeed in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

WI vs NZ, 3rd T20I, Pitch Report:
New Zealand have won both the matches while batting first and they have managed to post 180+ runs on the board in both these games. This indicates that the pitch has a lot to offer to the batters and the same might be the case in this game. The bowlers, however, get their share in the second innings. This is the reason the team winning the toss might look to bat.

Top Picks for WI vs NZ Dream11 Match:
Top Picks – Batters
Martin Guptill:
He is the leading run-scorer in T20Is for New Zealand and is currently the second-highest run-getter behind Rohit Sharma. He is just 5 runs away from equalling Sharma’s record. However, this year has not been the best for the right-handed batter. In 8 matches, he has managed to score only 183 runs at an average of 22.87 and a strike rate of 122.81. Guptill is yet to score a half-century in T20Is this year.
Glenn Phillips:
He made his T20I debut back in 2017 against South Africa on the back of a decent run in domestic cricket. He could not make the most out of the chances in the first three years of his T20I career. However, since last year, he has been a different player altogether. Last year, he scored 321 runs in 18 T20Is at an average of 26.75. His average has seen a steep rise this year. The wicketkeeper-batter has made 278 runs in just 8 matches which includes three half-centuries. He made 76 runs off 41 deliveries in the last game and won the Player of the Match award.
Top Picks – All-Rounders
Michael Bracewell:
His T20I career is just 7 matches old as he made his debut this year against the Netherlands. However, he has enjoyed a lot of success in domestic cricket having made his T20 debut back in 2012. He holds the record for scoring the second-highest individual score in T20s by a Kiwi batter. In the last game, the 31-years-old all-rounder delivered for New Zealand with the ball. He picked 3 wickets for just 15 runs in 4 overs and even bowled a maiden over.
Mitchell Santner:
He picked another three-wicket haul in the last game and restricted West Indies to just 125 runs. Santner dismissed both the openers inside the powerplay. He gave away just 15 runs in 4 overs.
Top Picks – Bowlers
Obed McCoy:
He was a little expensive in the last game as he went for 40 runs in 4 overs, however, he managed to pick three important wickets for West Indies including that of Glenn Phillips. The 25-years-old left-arm pacer is enjoying a decent run this year. He has taken 16 wickets in 10 T20I matches at an average of 20.93 this year for West Indies and he is the second-highest wicket-taker for the team in the shortest format this year.
Ish Sodhi:
He is the highest wicket-taker for New Zealand in T20Is since 2021. In 25 matches, Sodhi has picked 42 wickets since 2021 at an average of 16.92. This year, he has picked at least a wicket in every T20I match that he has played for the team.
Top Picks – Wicketkeeper
Devon Conway:
He made his long-awaited return to T20Is since the semi-final against England in the T20 World Cup last year from the first game of this series. He made 46 runs off 38 deliveries in that game and injured himself after getting dismissed. The year 2021 was only the second year for Devon Conway’s T20I career as he made his debut in 2020. In 14 matches, the left-handed batter made 428 runs that year at an average of 47.55 and a strike rate of 135.01. He was the second-highest run-scorer for New Zealand in T20Is in 2021 despite missing a few matches. His average was higher than Martin Guptill, who was the leading run-scorer last year and took four more games than Conway to reach that mark.

Devon Conway (C), Martin Guptill (VC), Kane Williamson, Kyle Mayers, Michael Bracewell, Daryl Mitchell, Romario Shepherd, Trent Boult, Ish Sodhi, Obed McCoy, Odean Smith
WI vs NZ Risky Captaincy Choice:
Rovman Powell:
The third T20I will be the 50th match for Rovman Powell who made his debut back in 2017 against Pakistan. He has enjoyed a lot of success this year and has become a regular in West Indies’ lineup. The right-handed batter started this year with his maiden century in T20Is against England. He scored a half-century against India in February this year and followed that by scoring another against Bangladesh in the second T20I of the three-match series. Since that innings, he has failed to make a mark in this format. He has failed to score more than 30 runs in an innings in his last 8 outings for the West Indies.
Trent Boult:
He has already opted out of the NZC contract and no one knows till when we will see him donning the Kiwi jersey. He has played only 2 T20Is this year and has picked a single wicket. Boult is a bowler who can make the ball move as per his demand and hence, should be there in your fantasy team. However, picking him as the captain of your fantasy team might be a risky decision.
Player you should avoid:
Nicholas Pooran:
Since being appointed the full-time captain of West Indies’ limited-overs team, Nicholas Pooran has managed to score more than 30 runs in an innings on two occasions. In the last seven matches, he has even failed to score more than 25 runs in an innings. Pooran is clearly out of form in recent times and hence, his selection in your fantasy team might not be justified.
