WI vs NZ: Shimron Hetmyer plucks one-handed screamer to send back Martin Guptill

Shimron Hetmyer is one of the most underrated fielders going around, but he can be quick on the field. Back into the West Indies limited-overs side after clearing the fitness tests, Hetmyer scored a quick-fire 56 against India in the final T20I of the series. He started the New Zealand series with a stunning effort on the boundary lines that left the commentators in awe.

Martin Guptill and Devon Conway shared a 50-run partnership for the first wicket, with the bulk of the runs coming from the bat of Conway. In the eighth over, Odean Smith was brought into the bowling attack by the skipper Nicholas Pooran, and the former managed to dismiss Guptill, who could take away the game from the opponents in a really quick time.

Guptill was batting on 16 when Smith banged it short  and Guptill played a cut between deep covers and the third man area. Hetmyer had to cover a long distance, running in from the deep cover, and he latched onto a one-handed screamer while running. The wind was blowing strong and it was a very difficult catch considering the boundary lines.

Meanwhile, Hetmyer could not contribute much with the bat and was dismissed for just 2 off 3 deliveries. The left-hander will have to pull his socks up with the T20 World Cup 2022 coming up and he will be hoping to contribute a lot more in the remaining two games.

New Zealand reached a massive 185/5 on the board in their 20 overs on the back of a good batting display from Kane Williamson (47), Conway (43) and Neesham (33*). In reply, the West Indies fell short by 13 runs despite the late scare from the likes of Romario Shepherd (31*) and Odean Smith (27*). The second T20I is scheduled to take place on August 13 at Sabina Park in Kingston.
