The talented Bangladeshi batsman Liton Das got another chance to show his merit in the 50-over format for Bangladesh. Liton has 7 centuries and 14 fifties in List-A cricket but has failed to bring that golden run of consistency into the international arena. Bangladesh team management has tried at least three batsmen including Liton to solve the opening combination problem. But, none of them turned out to be the solution.
Liton lost his place from the ODI squad after his poor performance during Bangladesh’s tour of South Africa tour in 2017, where he scored 21, 14 and 6 in the three-match ODI series. But, the ball is now on the court of the 23-year-old batsman. He has been recalled to the Bangladesh ODI squad for the upcoming Asia Cup and is being considered as a long-term opening option along with Tamim Iqbal.
Liton showed his potential in the recent T20Is against Windies, where he played an innings of 61 runs from 32 balls in the series decider at Florida. The knock made the Bangladesh management to trust him once again. In the meantime, Liton took it as another chance to cement his place in the ODI team.
The batsman eager to continue his aggressive style of play
Liton Das insisted in a recent interview that he will continue playing the aggressive brand of cricket. “Every batsman has a different style of play and my style is to go for aggressive cricket. I will continue to play this way. If you want to add runs on the scoreboard, you have to play some shots. This is the responsibility of a batsman, besides staying at the wicket,” Liton mentioned in the interview during their practice camp ahead of Asia Cup.
Bangladesh’s best memory in the Asia Cup remains to be the two final appearances, one back in 2012 and another in 2016. On both the occasions, Bangladesh were the losing side to Pakistan and India respectively. But, this time around, they are hoping to write a new chapter in their history.
