Will play cricket even after becoming a politician: S Sreesanth
Former India fast bowler S Sreesanth, whose career is actually on hold due to a ban for involvement in spot-fixing during the IPL in 2013 is now playing on a different pitch. Sreesanth will be contesting the polls in Kerela after Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) gave him a ticket.
Sreesanth, who played for India in 27 Tests, 53 ODIs and 10 T20Is, was a part of two World title winning India teams in 2007 World T20 and ICC World Cup 2011. He said that though he will continue to play cricket even after he becomes a MLA, after winning the polls.
“Cricket is there and it is in my blood. I will still bowl those out singles at 140+. When given an opportunity, sooner or later, whenever I get it, I would love to play again. That is where I come from. And there is nothing like an MLA who has won by a lot of votes and is playing for the country,” said the former India player.
BCCI had imposed life bans on Ajit Chandila, Ankit Chavan and S Sreesanth for their alleged involvement in spot-fixing in IPL 2013. But he was given a clean chit by a court later and now, BJP gave him a ticket to contest the polls from the Thiruvananthapuram seat, as it is trying to make inroads in Kerela.
Sreesanth said, “it is a great opportunity for me to give it back to the people. They’ve been really supporting me during the toughest of times. Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, and every individual who has supported me so far. It is a great opportunity for me to start fresh.”
He dismissed the notions that foraying into politics will stop him from playing cricket or his intentions of playing at the highest levels were over. Sreesanth said that.” Kerala has not seen an MP from the state. If Modiji can do it in Gujarat, I want to do the same thing in Kerela and show Keralites the way forward. Thiruvananthapuram is the same as it was. It is developing but very slowly. So once the BJP comes into power in Kerala, you will see a lot of difference here.”
