'Will try to serve the Indian team much longer' - Avesh Khan after international debut
Avesh Khan made his international debut against West Indies in the third T20I of the series on February 20.
Avesh Khan was finally handed his Indian cap in the third T20 International after being with the squad for a long time. The Madhya Pradesh pacer was included in the Indian squad after having finished as the second-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2021 with 24 wickets in 16 games and was quite fantastic throughout the season.
Avesh has got the pace to hit the 140kmph mark and his ability to nail the yorkers at the death overs has been a key feature of his bowling. He was taken to the cleaners in the first over he bowled but came back better in his last three overs against West Indies, as he finished 0/42 in his four-over spell in a high-scoring game.
Avesh noted that he was quite nervous on his debut international game and explained how hard he has worked to reach the stage. He added that the skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid helped him immensely to get some nerves down.
When I got to learn that I am playing, I was a little nervous: Avesh Khan
“Nervousness is bound to happen. When I got to learn that I am playing, making my debut I was a little nervous because the thing for which I have been working hard was finally going to get fulfilled.”
“Rohit bhai (Rohit Sharma) backed me, Rahul sir (Dravid) told me to enjoy my debut game. This day is not going to comeback again and I just enjoyed,” Avesh told in a chat with Venkatesh Iyer in a video posted by BCCI.
Avesh added that he had enjoyed the entire game as India clinched the T20I series 3-0 against the West Indies. Suryakumar Yadav starred for India with the bat alongside some excellent bowling from Harshal Patel to complete the series win.
“It was a nice feeling. Every player has a dream to play for India and my dream got fulfilled today (Sunday). I am feeling very good. I enjoyed the moment, the entire match and we won the match as well. I will try to serve the Indian team as much as possible,” Avesh added.
