Windies A vs India A, Review: Deepak Chahar's fifer, Mayank's hundred takes India A home

The India A boys started off their campaign on a positive note in the practice games on the England tour. However, they couldn’t replicate the same kind of heroics in the first game of the tri-series against England Lions. The hosts won that game by 7 wickets and thoroughly dominated the visitors. But, in the third game of the tri-series, India A made a strong come back against the West Indies A .

Going into this game, India roped in K Khaleel Ahmed into the XI in place of Krishnappa Gowtham. The bowlers started off brilliantly in game. They restricted Windies A side to a low total of 221 runs. The batsmen responded beautifully in a rather easy chase helping the team bag a 7-wicket win.

Deepak Chahar was on fire!

Windies roped in Andre McCarthy into the side in this game. After winning the toss, Windies A skipper Jason Mohammed opted to bat first. However, this decision didn’t pay off for his side as Indian seamer Deepak Chahar dismissed Jermaine Blackwood for a duck right on the second ball of the game. Soon, Andre McCarthy was also dismissed for 11 runs in the third over when he nicked one off Chahar to Pant. After this early wickets, Chandrapaul Hemraj and Jason Mohammed stitched a nice little partnership.

But, unfortunately, Hemraj was run out when he was on 45 by Shubman Gill. Soon, Vijay Shankar dismissed Jason Mohammed and the Windies A side kept losing wickets from there on. Although Devon Thomas was trying hard to put a good total from one end, he literally had no support from the other. For India, Chahar was the destroyer in chief. He came back for a second spell and picked another 3 wickets to complete a 5-wicket haul. All other bowlers, except for Axar Patel picked one wicket each.

Mayank Agarwal lights up the chase with a blistering century

Chasing this small target, India A got off to a flyer. Prithvi Shaw looked in good touch and was tonking the bowlers all around the park. He smashed six boundaries in his brief stint in the middle and scored 27 off 16 balls. But he was soon dismissed by Cheemar Holder. Mayank Agarwal, who was in the middle was then joined by Shubman Gill.

These two stitched a wonderful partnership together. While Mayank played the aggressor, Shubman took his own sweet time to score the runs. The Karnataka batsman went on to score a quickfire century but was dismissed on 112 runs by Dominic Drakes. Skipper Shreyas Iyer who came in at the fall of Mayank’s wicket failed to impress in this game too. He only managed score one run before Drakes dismissed him.

Meanwhile, Gill got to his half-century and remained not out on 58 runs at the end of the innings. Rishabh Pant played an aggressive knock towards the end wrapping things up with 18 runs off 10 balls.
