Windies legend Brian Lara picks an Indian batsman in his all-time limited-overs XI
The cricketer is currently the second-highest run scorer in T20Is.
The Indian team have recently beaten Windies in the three-match T20I series 2-0 following their victory in Lucknow by 71 runs. Prior to that, the home team brushed the Caribbean aside team by five wickets in a low-scoring affair at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The hosts’ bowlers have come to the party on both the instances to carve the triumph in the 20-overs fixtures.
The third match on Sunday in Chennai is nothing but a dead rubber. The Indian batting looked jittery in the first match but soared above expectations last time around to set Windies a target of 196. Their batting was so impressive that former Caribbean batsman Brian Lara picked one batsman from their lineup in his all-time limited-overs team and it’s none other than Rohit Sharma.
“You look at the guy’s numbers in the 50-overs and T20 game, he is the number one batsman in the world in terms of runs. He is up there with the very best and hence, that’s not even a question. Rohit Sharma is going to be in any limited-overs team that anyone wants to pick, not just India, but even in the World XI, he’ll be up there with them,” Lara was quoted as saying in News 18.
Rohit in prime form
Rohit scored 111 runs from 61 deliveries to become the first batsman with four T20I centuries, surpassing New Zealand batsman Colin Munro, who has three. His knock was laced with eight fours and seven sixes. He started cautiously but came into his own once he got the measure of the conditions and the opposition bowling, which looked rusty throughout.
In the meantime, the 31-year-old also surpassed Indian captain Virat Kohli as the highest T20I run-scorer for India. Rohit was 10 runs short of the Delhi-born cricket and he comfortably went past Virat. Moreover, he now has the chance of becoming the all-time highest run-getter in the format as he is 68 runs shy of Black Caps right-handed batsman Martin Guptill.
