The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has contributed significantly to cricket in Afghanistan. Earlier in this year in May, BCCI decided that every touring team to India will play a practice match against Afghanistan ‘A’ or U19 teams. The same was decided when Amitabh Chaudhary, the BCCI’s acting secretary, visited Kabul to meet the officials of the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).

The Windies are scheduled to arrive India next week and their international fixtures get underway on October 4 with the first Test match in Rajkot. However, they won’t be playing a warm-up match against Afghanistan ‘A’ as per reports in Sportstar. A source mentioned that Afghanistan U19 will play the Asia Cup in Bangladesh and the ‘A’ team players are busy preparing for the Afghanistan Premier League.

I haven’t heard of any tour matches

Hence, they won’t be enough time for them to take part in practice matches. “There is a lot of cricket happening in the next few months, so there won’t be any time for the Afghanistan cricketers to play any tour games now,” the official mentioned.

The U19 players are currently honing their skills in Greater Noida under the tutelage of Andy Moles. Talking about the probable warm-up match, Moles said: “We are lucky to be supported by the BCCI so much, but. We are travelling to Dhaka on September 27 for the U-19 Asia Cup, and as far I know, the A team is preparing for the APL. I haven’t heard of any tour matches (against the West Indies) this time.”

Albeit their warm-up match against the Afghan team stands cancelled they will play a practice match against Board President’s XI from September 29 at Gujarat State Fertilizer Corporation Ground in Vadodara. The tour consists of a couple of Tests, five ODIs and three T20Is.

While the Windies played their last full-fledged series against Bangladesh, India are busy playing the 2018 Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
