The Windies bounced back in the 5-match ODI series as they registered their first ODI win against England in nearly five years. All the major stats and numbers recorded during the series equalizer by the Windies:

A rare defeat for England:

2014 – Windies’ win in this game was their first ODI win against England since the 16-run win in 2014 at the North Sound in Antigua. England were unbeaten in their previous 11 ODIs against Windies by winning in ten of them while another game ended in a washout.

2016 – The last instance of the Brits failing to chase a target less than 350 was back in 2016 October. They were bowled out for 204 while chasing 239 under the captaincy of Jos Buttler against Bangladesh in Dhaka.

18-3 – Coming into this game, England had a win-loss record of 18-3 in ODI chases since 2017. All those three losses coming after they conceded 360+ while batting first.

Hetmyer delivers for the hosts:

82 – Shimron Hetmyer’s 82-ball century is the fastest by a Windies player in ODI cricket against England. The previous fastest ODI against England for the Windies was the 94-ball century by Evin Lewis in 2017 The Oval ODI.

4 – All the four ODI centuries of Hetmyer have come in 84 or fewer deliveries. No other Windies batsman has completed more than three ODI hundreds in fewer than 85 balls. Brian Lara has three recorded ODI centuries in 83 or lesser balls in this format.

Cottrell delivers for the Windies:

5/46 – Sheldon Cottrell’s 5/46 is the 3rd best bowling figures for a left-arm bowler in ODIs for the Windies. Jimmy Adams against Pakistan in the 1996 Adelaide ODI picked up 5/37 while Pedro Collins had figures of 5/43 against Australia also at the Adelaide in 2005.

5/46 – Cottrell’s figures of 5/46 are the 2nd best ODI figures for a left-arm bowler in the West Indies only behind Mitchell Johnson’s 5/29 against the hosts in 2008. Cottrell’s figures are also the 2nd best ODI figures for a Windies player at home against England behind Colin Croft’s 6/15 in 1981.

England’s no-ball streak comes to an end:

11366 – Number of consecutive legal balls that England bowlers have bowled without overstepping in ODI format. The last instance of an England player bowling a front foot no-ball was Liam Plunkett in the 44th over of the Cuttack ODI against India in January 2017.

Ben Stokes’ no-ball in the 48th over brought an end to England’s streak. In the 45 ODIs between Plunkett and Stokes’ no-balls England bowled ten no-balls which were either waist height or having extra fielders outside the circle.

A hat-trick for Gayle:

3Chris Gayle scored his 3rd straight fifty-plus score in ODI cricket. He scored 50 and 135 in the two games in this series and 73 in his previous ODI appearance in July against Bangladesh. The last instance of Gayle scoring hat-trick 50+ in ODIs was back in 2012 which was only such instance for Gayle since the start of 2008.
