England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the Test and ODI squads for their upcoming West Indies tour. They are set to play 3 Tests and 5 ODIs and three T20 Internationals on the tour which will last for close to 60 days. Joe Root-led Test squad is unchanged apart from the fact that Ollie Pope has missed out from the group that whitewashed Sri Lanka in their own den recently.
The likes of Joe Denly, Ben Foakes and Rory Burns who came into the Test squad for the sub-continent tour have been retained while Olly Stone has also been included in the 16-man group. The Test series will commence on January 23 at the Kensington Oval before which the visitors are scheduled to play a couple of two-day warm-up games to get hold of the conditions in the Caribbean islands.
The Tests conclude on February 13 at Darren Sammy Oval in St Lucia as the focus will then shift on the most important limited-overs series.
What about ODI squad?
As far as the ODI squad is concerned, the selectors have picked the team keeping in mind the upcoming World Cup at home. David Willey and Tom Curran return to the set-up having missed the Sri Lanka series while Sam Curran, Liam Dawson and Olly Stone miss out.
The five-match ODI series will start on February 20 after the Test series in Barbados which will go on until March 2. The three T20 Internationals then will be played on March 5, 8 and 10 to conclude a long tour of England to the Caribbean islands. The T20I squad is yet to be announced by the ECB and the selectors will soon take a call on the same as well.
Interestingly, Ben Stokes and Alex Hales who were charged by ECB Discipline Committee the other night have been included in the squads. While Stokes has served his suspension, Hales could be suspended for four ODIs over the next year.
