India took an unassailable 1-0 lead in the 3-match ODI series with a comfortable victory during the rain-affected 2nd ODI. Virat Kohli registered his 42nd ODI century as he scored 120 off 125 deliveries with 15 boundaries. Shreyas Iyer contributed with a 68-ball 71 as India finished on 279/7 scoring only 53 from last 52 balls. Windies had their moments in the revised chase of 270 from 46 overs. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s 4-wicket haul cut down the hopes of the home team who were bowled out for 210.

The fortress away from home:

8 – India have played eight ODIs since the start of 2011 in Port of Spain without losing one. India won seven of those eight matches while the 2017 series game ended in a washout. India’s last defeat at this venue came in the 2007 World Cup against Sri Lanka.


Kohli goes past Sachin:

34 – Number of centuries Virat Kohli scored in ODI victories; the most by any player. Kohli went past Sachin Tendulkar who scored 33 in ODI format in wins.


Bhuvi strikes again:

2 – Bhuvneshwar Kumar became the first Indian to take multiple 4-wicket hauls in ODI cricket in the West Indies. Bhuvneshwar took 4/8 against Sri Lanka during the 2013 Tri-Series match.

Those are still the best bowling figures in the West Indies for an Indian in the ODI format. His both 4-fers came in Port of Spain making him the first visiting player with two 4-fers at a venue in the Caribbean.


Scoring and catching it:

2 – Virat Kohli is only the 2nd Indian to score a century and take three outfield catches in the same ODI. Rohit Sharma was the first which he did during the last year’s Brabourne ODI also against the Windies.


Kohli @ 2000:

2032 – Virat Kohli became the first player to amass 2000 runs in ODI cricket against the Windies. He went past Javed Miandad’s tally of 1930 runs with this century.


34 – Kohli needed 34 innings to reach 2000 ODI runs against the Windies; the quickest to the milestone against an opponent. Rohit Sharma was the previous fastest taking 37 innings to complete 2000 ODI runs against the Aussies.


Gayle tops Windies records:

300 – Chris Gayle became the first player from the Windies to feature in 300 ODI matches. Brian Lara played 299 matches in his ODI career.


10408 – Gayle is now the 12th highest run-getter in the ODI format and the leading run-scorer among the Windies players. The opener surpassed Brian Lara’s tally of 10405 runs during this match.


Captain and vice-captain on duty:

32 – Number of fifty-plus stands between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in ODI cricket; the 2nd most by an Indian pair and overall the 8th most by any pair. Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly pair has as many as 55 partnerships of 50+ in this format; the most by any pair.
