Windies vs India 2019, 3rd T20I – Kohli and Pant’s records, Chahar’s opening spell and more stats

India completed a whitewash in the 3-match T20I series against the Windies with yet another clinical victory this time in Guyana. Deepak Chahar, playing his first game of the series, took 3/4 in the powerplay to reduce the Windies to 22/3 by end of 6th over. Kieron Pollard’s first T20I fifty in seven years helped the hosts to finish on 146/6.

India missed a decent start in the absence of Rohit Sharma. However, Virat Kohli took the responsibility of the chase along with Rishabh Pant. The fifties from the Delhi players helped India to finish the chase with five balls and seven wickets in hand.

India’s record streak:

6 – India became the first team to defeat Windies in six consecutive T20I matches. Windies’ previous longest losing streak against any team was of five matches against Pakistan between 2017 and 2018.

Another whitewash for India:

4 – This was the 4th time India won a 3-match T20I series by a 3-0 margin. They defeated Australia in 2016 away series, Sri Lanka and Windies in the 2017 and 2018 home series respectively. They are the 3rd team to affect whitewash in as many as four T20I series of three or more games. Afghanistan also won four such series while Pakistan won five times.

5 – Windies now have been whitewashed in five 3-match T20I series; two more than any side. Pakistan clean swept the Windies in 2017 and 2018 while England did it earlier this year. India also has two 3-0 wins over the Caribbean team in the shortest format.

An economical spell to begin:

1.33 – Deepak Chahar had an economy rate of 1.33 during his 3/4 in three overs. This is the 2nd best economy for India in a T20I innings where a minimum of three overs bowled. Bhuvneshwar Kumar had an economy rate of 1 when he played against UAE in the 2016 Asia Cup where the pacer recorded figures of 0/3 in his three overs.

Pant shatters records among Indian keepers:

65* – Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 65 is now the highest individual score by an Indian keeper in T20I cricket. MS Dhoni’s 56 during the 2017 Bangalore T20I against England was the previous highest T20I score by an Indian keeper. Pant is also the first Indian keeper to score a fifty in a T20I chase.

Kohli equals Rohit again:

21 – Number of fifty-plus scores for Virat Kohli in T20I cricket; the joint-most by any player in this format. Rohit Sharma also has 21 fifty-plus scores in T20Is including four hundreds while Kohli has 21 T20I fifties.

Kohli @ 1000:

1043 – Virat Kohli completed 1000 runs in successful T20I chases with his fifty in this match. No other player has even scored 800 runs in successful T20I chases. Kohli has batted 22 times in successful chases in T20I cricket and scored fifties in 11 of them.

A keeper-captain pair to the rescue:

6 – Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant are the first Indian keeper-captain pair to score the fifties in the same T20I. Overall, they are the 6th keeper-captain pair to score fifties in the same T20I innings.

A series of maiden overs:

5 – Indian bowlers delivered as many as five maiden overs in this series; one each by a different bowler. They are the first side to bowl five maidens in a single bilateral series. India bowled six maiden overs during the 2016 Asia Cup T20; the most by them in a T20I series/tournament.
