Windies vs India, 2019: List of records that Virat Kohli created during his 42nd century in ODI cricket
Kohli scored 120 off 125 deliveries to propel India to 279 in 50 overs.
Virat Kohli smashed a brilliant century in his very first ODI innings since India’s exit from the World Cup in the semi-finals. Kohli hit 14 fours and a maximum on his way through to a 125-ball 120. The Indian skipper batted aggressively until Rohit Sharma was at the crease. Kohli slowed down a bit during the middle phase but his hundred gave enough thrust to the Indian team for reaching a good total.
All the major stats and records that Virat Kohli created with his 42nd ODI century:
3 – Number of centuries for Kohli against the Windies in the West Indies; the joint-most by any player alongside Hashim Amla and Joe Root. Matthew Hayden is the other visiting player with three tons in the West Indies as he scored centuries against WI, NZ and SA in the 2007 CWC.
8 – Virat Kohli now has scored 8 ODI centuries against the Windies; the same number of tons he has scored against Sri Lanka and Australia. Sachin Tendulkar has nine and eight hundreds respectively against Australia and Sri Lanka in ODIs. No player other than these two has struck eight or more tons over an opponent in ODI cricket.
6 – Six out of eight ODI centuries against the Windies by Kohli were scored when he was a captain. These are the most number of ODI tons by a captain against an opposition surpassing five by Ricky Ponting against England in 2001.
20 – Number of centuries Virat Kohli has scored as a captain in ODI cricket; the most by an Indian under any captain. Kohli himself scored 19 tons in this format while playing under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
34 – Innings Kohli needed for reaching 2000 runs in ODIs against the Windies; the fewest number of innings any player needed for completing 2000 ODI runs against an opponent. Rohit Sharma was the previous holder of this record as he needed 37 innings for scoring his 2000 ODI runs against Australia.
120 – Virat Kohli’s 120-run knock is now the highest individual ODI score by a captain in the West Indies. Brian Lara’s 116 against Sri Lanka in the 2003 Bridgetown ODI was the previous highest.
120 – The 120 by Kohli is also the 2nd highest individual score in ODI cricket by an Indian in the West Indies. Yuvraj Singh’s 131 back in 2009 Kingston ODI is still the highest score by an Indian in this part of the World.
2032 – Virat became the first player to amass 2000 runs in ODI cricket against the Windies. Javed Miandad’s 1930 runs were the previous highest number of runs by any player in ODIs against the West Indian team.
