Windies vs India: Kuldeep Yadav aims to surpass Mohammad Shami at Port of Spain
Shami created a record back in January 2019 against New Zealand.
Kuldeep Yadav has been India’s genuine wicket-taker in white-ball cricket. He along with leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has created a lot of headaches for the opposition batsmen. The southpaw didn’t have the greatest of campaigns in the World Cup, having picked up only six wickets in seven games. Owing to his lackluster show, the tweaker didn’t play a few games in the mega event.
The youngster is currently a part of the three-match ODI series in the West Indies and has picked up three wickets in the two matches in Guyana and Trinidad. India have taken a 1-0 lead, but Virat Kohli and Co are yet to emerge victorious in the series. The third and final One Dayer is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 14 at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain in Trinidad.
A chance for Kuldeep Yadav to move at the helm
Going into the all-important encounter, Kuldeep is on the threshold of a record. He is on the verge of becoming the fastest Indian to 100 ODI wickets. At the present point in time, fast bowler Mohammad Shami is the holder of the record. The Bengal speedster accomplished the feat earlier this year against New Zealand in Napier and raced to the milestone in only his 56th ODI. The Chinaman has two ODIs to register the record.
Shami got rid of Martin Guptill in the very first over of the contest to make own the record. The right-arm seamer toppled Irfan Pathan, who did it in 59 ODIs. As far as Kuldeep is concerned, he is presently on 96 wickets from 53 matches. Even as he has a couple of matches to topple Shami, he can go past the pacer in the next game itself if he manages to take a four-wicket haul.
In the ongoing ODI series, Kuldeep has done well. In the first match at the Providence Stadium, he conceded only three runs in a couple of overs and also picked up the prized scalp of Chris Gayle, who was finding it tough in the middle. In the second encounter, he removed the dangerous Evin Lewis, the Windies’ highest scorer in the game. He also accounted for the wicket of Shimron Hetmyer.
