Team India is currently playing the World Cup in England and Wales and are almost assured of a semi-final spot. They have won four out of the five matches so far while the other has been washed out. No wonder the mega event is gruelling for all the teams and there is no respite for the Men in Blue after its conclusion. They are scheduled to tour West Indies for three T20Is, three ODIs and a couple of Tests starting from August 3.
While two of the T20Is will be played in Florida, the ODIs will begin from August 8. The skipper Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah look set to be rested for the limited-overs leg of the tour. If Team India ends up playing the final, many players are likely to be rested with the selectors looking to build a team for the upcoming T20 World Cup next year in Australia.
“Virat and Jasprit will certainly be rested for the three-match T20Is and three-match ODI series. Virat has been playing since start of Australia series and Bumrah’s workload management is also paramount. They will join the team before the Test series,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by the Quint.
Virat and Bumrah will join the team ahead of practice game
By no means, India will be resting their premier players for the Test series as it also marks the start of the ICC Test Championship for them. Both Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are expected join the squad ahead of their three-day practice game in Antigua which will be played from August 17.
“With the first Test in Antigua starting 22 August, there would be enough time for the key members in the World Cup squad to get much-needed rest,” the official further added. However, by the time, the Test series starts, the likes of Hanuma Vihari, Prithvi Shaw and Mayank Agarwal will have got used to the conditions playing for India A in West Indies.
Moreover, as far as the T20I series is concerned, it has been reported that the likes of Krunal Pandya, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Chahar, Sanju Samson are in line to be picked.
