Windies vs India: Virat Kohli pulls off a mind-boggling cover drive off Jason Holder
Kohli brought up his 43rd ODI century off 94 deliveries.
Rain halted play for the third match in a row in the ODI series between hosts Windies and India. But it couldn’t stop Virat Kohli, the skipper of the Men in Blue, from weaving his magic on the field. The run-machine racked up his 43rd century in ODI cricket and continued with his jaw-dropping form. En route his knock, the Delhi-born batsman smacked 14 glorious boundaries.
One of his fours of Jason Holder, the opposition captain, was arguably the shot of the day, so much so that it drew praises from the legendary Sir Vivian Richards. In the fifth ball of the 22nd over during India’s run-chase, he creamed Holder through the cover region. He made some room by going leg-side with his bottom leg bent to a large extent. Kohli didn’t lose his shape though.
Despite not being in the best of positions to play the shot, Virat found the middle of the bat and fielders on the off-side had absolutely no chance of stopping the ball from racing away. All they could go is stand and watch. The shot made the dynamic Richards laud the 30-year-old “Would’ve been happy to play something like that when I was playing,” Richards mentioned.

Kohli shows his aura
At the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad, Virat turned out to be an unstoppable force. After a spell of downpour delayed proceedings, the Caribbean team scored 240/7 in 35 overs. Chris Gayle, who most likely played his last ODI, top scored for the home team. India were thereafter set a revised target of 255. Kohli came to bat after opener Rohit Sharma was run out in the third over.
He put on 66 with Shikhar Dhawan and then stitched together a match-winning stand of 120 runs with Shreyas Iyer, who scored consecutive half-centuries. Kohli got to yet another century off 94 deliveries, clipping speedster Kemar Roach for a single in the fifth ball of the 31st over.
Following the milestone, he took off his helmet and roared with ferocity. Kohli also had the privilege of hitting the winning boundary. Kohli glanced a delivery off Carlos Brathwaite down the leg side. He remained unbeaten on 114 runs off 99 balls, leading India to a 2-0 victory in the series.
