Pakistan fast bowler Hasan Ali said that beating India in the Champions Trophy 2017 final is the best moment of his life and will always trump all his future achievements. Hasan was adjudged Man of the series for his outstanding performance in the tournament with the ball.
He was brought to the team after Pakistan lost to India in their tournament opener. The pacer has played a substantial part in helping Pakistan lift their second 50 overs title after 1992. They defeated Team India by 180 runs in the final at the Oval in London. Batting first they set a target of 339 runs and Men in Blue were bundled out for just 158 runs.
But before the beginning of the tournament, nobody had given Pakistan a chance as they were struggling to elevate their rankings due to bad performance in the 50-over format. In the opening match, Pakistan suffered 124 runs defeat to India on June 4.
In the final overnight hero, Fakhar Zaman helped Pakistan set a mammoth total while scoring his maiden century a 106-ball 114. After Zaman’s a scintillating performance with the bat in hand, Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali rattled the Indian batting line-up with swing and pace bowling to bowl out India for paltry 158.
“I will never forget that day for as long as I live. It doesn’t matter what happens to me in future in cricket, June 18, 2017 will be a day that I will never forget. So far, it’s been the best day of my life and only a World Cup win will better that day,” Ali, the number one-ranked ODI bowler, told “Sky Sports”.
Amir and Hasan ran through Indian batting line-up
At the end of the tournament, Ali was adjudged man of the tournament for taking most number of wickets in the ODI tournament. He made crucial contributions in the semi-final against England with a three-wicket haul and followed it up with another three-wicket haul against India in the final.
While Amir uprooted India’s top order removing openers Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and captain Virat Kohli, Ali kept the Indian middle order in check with tidy spells. He ran through the Indian middle to dent their chance in the match removing MS Dhoni for four in the 14th over.
