Indian Premier League (IPL) is one of the premier T20 league going around the world. International, as well as the domestic cricketers around the world, looks to get a chance to get in the mix of the IPL once they get picked up during the IPL auction. The recently concluded IPL auction saw a number of lives set to change If the fielders manage to shine for their respective franchises.
However, for Sri Lanka’s Kusal Perera playing in the country’s domestic matches were of more value than playing in the IPL. The left-handed batsman was approached by Sunrisers Hyderabad side who wanted to get Perera as a replacement of David Warner who was banned by Cricket Australia for bringing disrepute to the game of cricket during the 3rd Test match against South Africa.
Eying a spot in Test side: Perera’s manager
The lucrative offer to join the IPL was turned down by the player as he is eying a return in Sri Lanka’s Test side. According to Perera’s manager, Ravi de Silva while confirming the reports said that Perera was excited about the offer but he wanted to make a comeback in the Test side. Sri Lanka is set to play a 3-match Test series against West Indies in May-June and that’s what Perera had in mind when he said no to the lucrative offer.
“He was very excited by the offer,” revealed de Silva. “But he wants to win back his place in the national side. So he is keen to play in the Super Fours Provincial Tournament and prove himself,” he added.
Perera had played a couple of blinders in the T20 tri-series involving India and Bangladesh which would’ve made the Hyderabad think-tank to present an offer in front of the left-handed batter.
According to De Silva Perera wants to represent the country in all the three formats of the game and that’s what made him say no to the opportunity of joining countrymen like Dushmantha Chameera, Akila Dananjaya.
