Ambati Rayudu gave up red-ball cricket last year in October when Virat Kohli confidently confirmed that the former will be their number four for the World Cup. Fast forward to April 2019 when the squad for the mega event was announced and the Hyderabad batsman’s name was missing and Vijay Shankar was preferred ahead of him. A lot was said about his exclusion then and even Kohli backed Shankar to come good.

When the World Cup started, team India suffered with injuries to Shikhar Dhawan first and then Vijay Shankar but Ambati Rayudu wasn’t called up. Rishabh Pant was preferred and then out of nowhere Mayank Agarwal was picked as Shankar’s replacement who is yet to make his ODI debut. Dejected with back-to-back snubs, Rayudu finally decided to call it quits on Wednesday to leave the former cricketers sympathized for him.

The Indian cricketing fraternity felt bad for the way Rayudu was treated in the last few months and wished him all the best for the second innings of his life.

You’re a top man

In his e-mail to the BCCI, Ambati Rayudu has thanked the captains he played under and there was a special mention to Virat Kohli who really backed him when he was picked in the team last year. ” I would like to thank the captains i have played under MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and especially Virat Kohli who always had shown great belief in me throughout my career with the Indian team,” he wrote.

The Indian captain who is currently in England playing in the World Cup, like many cricketers, has also come up with a tweet wishing his former teammate ahead in the life. “Wish you the best going forward Ambati. You’re a top man @RayuduAmbati,” Kohli tweeted for Rayudu.

Going by this tweet and Ambati Rayudu thanking the likes of MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma, clears that the players don’t have issues among them on the personal front and they still share a similar camaraderie.
