Wishes pour in for Suresh Raina as he plays his 100th FC game
Though his exclusion from Indian team has been associated to fitness issues and his failure to pass the Yo-Yo Test, it is most likely that he was shunned because of his poor form.
Suresh Raina’s career at the moment is being more closely watched than ever. While fans and several loyalists of the Uttar Pradesh captain are backing him to come back to the Indian squad and occupy the No. 4 spot, Raina himself has not been able to back those claims. In what is Raina’s 100th first-class game, Uttar Pradesh are playing against Maharashtra in Ekana International Stadium, Lucknow.
In totality, the all-rounder has amassed 6558 runs at an average of a 43.43 across his 100 matches so far, however, his last 4 innings after the end of IPL, have been far from his usual best. He has not been able to cross 45 runs in either the Duleep Trophy matches or today’s special 100th match where he was dismissed for a duck.
Though his exclusion has been associated to fitness issues and his failure to pass the Yo-Yo Test, it is most likely that he was shunned because of his poor form off late and an average IPL season. However, he has been a name that has been associated with the term ‘match-winner’ for every team he has played with, across all formats. His natural ability may not be at its best at the moment, but Raina’s dominance in the past is well remembered.
Twitter took the occasion to congratulate him on playing 100 First-class games, which is an achievement in itself. From Sachin Tendulkar to Vijender Singh, from Mohammad Kaif to Geeta Phogat- cricketers and IPL colleagues, celebrities and sportspersons conveyed their wishes to the veteran. The wishes started to pour in from the morning and continued even after Raina failed to score big in the first innings of the match against Maharashtra.
He also posted a picture of himself with an emoji that read 100, ahead of the special game, on October 22.
