Indian cricketer Kuldeep Yadav has put forth the difference between playing under an Indian captain and an international skipper. Over the years, the left-arm wrist spinner has plied his trade under Indian skippers such MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Gautam Gambhir, and Dinesh Karthik.
However, the youngster got the first taste of playing under an overseas skipper after Eoin Morgan became the Kolkata Knight Riders’ skipper midway through the 2020 edition. Kuldeep hasn’t quite a got a chance in the playing eleven ever since Morgan took over from Karthik as KKR’s captain.
In fact, in 2021, Kuldeep is yet to play an IPL match. Kuldeep said in case of an Indian captain, it’s easy to approach, regarding conversations on various aspects. However, when it’s about talking to overseas skippers, Kuldeep reckoned that the “communication gap widens”.
International skippers should also speak with players, says Kuldeep Yadav
“It undoubtedly makes a significant difference. I’ve just played under Eoin Morgan’s captaincy so far, and I’m not sure how he views me. We had never met much before he was named captain of the KKR. I usually saw him when we played against England,” Kuldeep told on Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel.
“With an international player, the communication gap widens but with an Indian captain, you can always talk to him openly and practically walk up to him and ask why you aren’t in the starting XI. If Rohit Sharma is your captain, you can ask him whatever you want about your role in the squad, what he thinks of your abilities, and where you can grow,” he stated
“However, this is not the case with an international skipper. They should also speak with players and show interest in what is expected of them,” Kuldeep added.
Back in 2016, Kuldeep made his IPL debut under Gambhir’s leadership and was deemed to have a bright future in the offing. The performance also earned him a national call-up in the year 2017
However, since the 2018 edition, the tweaker has had a rough time and hasn’t been at his very best. In 45 IPL matches, Kuldeep has only picked up 40 wickets at an economy rate of 8.28.
