The South African speedster, Dale Steyn is set to take the field for the first time in 10 months as he is prepared to feature in the first round of the Sunfoil Series. Steyn is aiming to make a return to the Test squad and will play the first-class fixture for the Multiply Titans starting from next week as he wants to prove his fitness ahead of the team selection for the Bangladesh Test series.
Steyn, who suffered a fracture in his right shoulder during the Perth Test in the last year November, hasn’t played any professional game since then. His shoulder needed a surgery due to the fracture which put him in a six-month rehabilitation. Steyn recently announced his return to cricket through an Instagram post last month, has decided to play the 4-day game to gain some match practice before the long International window.
Playing this game will be important for Steyn after the National selection convener, Linda Zondi said: “For me‚ anyone who plays in those matches is available for selection‚” on Friday. The Titans will be taking on the Dolphins at the Centurion in the Sunfoil Series 1st round starting on September 19.
Steyn to play along with his South African mates.
Steyn decided to return to his home franchise, Titans ahead of the 2017/18 season after being a part of Cape Cobras for as many as six years. South Africa’s No.1 bowler will be adjoined by the likes of Morne Morkel, Faf du Plessis, Dean Elgar and Heino Kuhn for the game against Dolphins.
Morne and Faf could join the Titans directly after the Pakistan vs World XI T20I series in Pakistan which will end on September 15. Kuhn, who had a forgettable tour of England, would like to make his case for selection with the competition he faces from Stephen Cook and Aiden Markram.
The 1st round of Sunfoil series is the only chance Steyn has to qualify for the 2-match Test series against Bangladesh which starts on September 28 as the squad for the Test series will be selected on next Friday (September 22). The 2nd round of the first-class tournament begins on September 28.
