India all-rounder and the master of swing bowling, Irfan Pathan announced retirement from all forms of the game on Saturday. No wonder the messages flooded in for him congratulating on a successful international career. Among them was his elder brother Yusuf Pathan who came up with an emotional message for Irfan. Yusuf went down the memory lane to recall the way they started playing together and ended up representing India.
Moreover, the elder Pathan congratulated Irfan Pathan for a successful career. The brothers played a handful of international matches together for India and also won a T20I against Sri Lanka in 2009. The team was struggling completely and there were no hopes of winning. But the duo joined hands and did the unthinkable for the country.
However, Yusuf picked winning the 2007 World T20 along with his brother beating Pakistan as the memorable moment. “The memorable moment playing with Irfan was to win the T20 World Cup in South Africa,” Yusuf said in his farewell note to Irfan Pathan while also assuring his younger brother that he will always be with him no matter what.
Irfan’s response
Irfan Pathan, on Sunday, is busy responding to all his well-wishers and is making sure he replies to almost each and everyone on Twitter. And how would he miss his dear brother? The love and camaraderie between the two was once again up for everyone to see as Irfan thanked Yusuf for all the support and love he has given throughout his career. Rather the left-hander went on to say that nothing would’ve been possible if not for Yusuf’s support.
“My brother and my friend without you nothing is possible. Not only cricket, you taught me how hit sixes. You taught me how to be strong without saying a word. You were always there for me and always be. Lots of love my brother,” Irfan Pathan’s reply read.
As far as Irfan’s international career is concerned, he ended with 301 wickets to his name in 173 appearances for India. He also went on score 1105 Test, 1544 ODI and 172 T20I runs slamming 11 half-centuries and 1 century donning the national jersey.
