Umpires often face the warth of the cricket world after making errors on the field. These mistakes sometimes even impact the result of the game. On several occasions, however, the fielding side has no one but themselves to blame for missing out on a wicket. In order to minimize the umpires’ error, the Decision Review System (DRS) has been introduced.

Despite this, however, fielding sides lose opportunities of taking wickets due to their reluctance of taking reviews. Meanwhile, a bizarre sequence of events unfolded during the recently-concluded match between Queensland and Tasmania in the ongoing Women’s National Cricket League 2021-22. Opening batter Georgia Voll got away even after getting clean bowled.

Massive blunder from the fielding team

Yes, you read it right! The right-handed batter had her stumps dislodged and that too of a legal delivery. However, she continued batting as none of the Tasmania fielders appealed. The incident happened in the 14th over of the first innings in Hobart. Right-arm pacer Belinda Vakarewa bowled a brilliant good-length delivery which went past the outside edge of Voll.

As the wicketkeeper couldn’t collect the ball, she went after it and didn’t realize that the stumps had been dislodged. As there was no appeal from the fielding side, the commentators that that wicketkeeper’s gloves might have caused the same.

However, the mystery got solved when the replays was shown in the big screen. It showed that the ball had clipped the bails which meant that Voll had actually been clean bowled but she survived as there was no appeal from the fielding side. Notably, Voll saw that the stumps are disturbed. However, she continued to bat.

Meanwhile, the error didn’t hurt Tasmania much as Georgia Voll couldn’t make the most out of the reprieve. She could only add 5 more runs to her tally after the incident and was dismissed on 31 by Sarah Coyte. Meanwhile, Queensland scored 223/6 in 48 overs with the game being rain-curtailed. The revised target (after D/L method) was chased down comfortably by Tasmania. Nicola Carey led Tasmania’s chase with a brilliant hundred and she received the Player-of-the-Match award for the same.
