Woman cricketer from Pakistan tests COVID-19 positive ahead of high-performance camp

A Pakistan woman cricketer has tested COVID-19 positive during the second round of regular testing. The news has created a stir among the squad, which was gearing up for the team’s high-performance camp that is set to commence on Saturday in Karachi.

The player’s name has not been revealed by the management due to privacy reasons, and she has been moved from the team’s bio-secure bubble to a self-isolation area.

Apart from her, one more player and a player support personnel have been moved into a self-isolation area because they showed related symptoms. They were withdrawn from the bio-secure bubble after they showed symptoms of infection in the upper respiratory tract, as stated by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday.

“The three squad members’ progress will be regularly monitored by the PCB’s medical panel. They will be allowed to reintegrate with the rest of the squad after complete recovery subject to retesting with negative results as per PCB domestic COVID -19 SOPs,”  the PCB statement added.

Pakistan Women’s team played last in March

The camp, which was set to begin at the national stadium, has been arranged to help players regain their form and fitness. The camp is set to kick start the journey of women’s cricket for domestic and international season 2020-21.

The Pakistan women’s cricket team was last seen in action in a competitive cricket during T20 World Cup in March. They had a terrible outing back then as they were knocked out in the group stage itself after winning just one out of the total four games played.

Just like every other thing, the sports world is also returning on track after the long COVID-19 induced halt. Even the Indian women’s cricket team are ready to flag their resumption in the game. They will first play the Women’s IPL in UAE from November 1-10 and will then move out for their international tours.

Their IPL in UAE is also set up under the bio-secure bubble as per strict COVID-19 protocols by BCCI. The WIPL caters a competitive women’s cricket in the T20 format of the game which sees action between three teams.
