Woman cricketer from Rwanda enters Guinness World Record after batting for 26 hours straight
A promising young woman cricketer from Rwanda, Cathia Uwamahoro made her way into the Guinness World Record after batting for 26 hours straight. Courtesy her extraordinary perseverance in the middle she has now become the first woman to stay up in the crease for this long which allowed her to be added to the Guinness World Book of Records. Her incredible journey started yesterday at 8:00 am at Amahoro Indoor Stadium and continued till 10:00 am today.
She did this act to raise money for the ongoing construction of the first ever international cricket stadium in Rwanda. The project of the Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation (RCSF) is located at the Kicukiro district of Gahanga in Kigali. Uwamahoro also became the 2nd Rwandan woman in less than a year to break her way into the Guinness World Record. Last year in May it was the national captain of the men’s team, Eric Dusingizimana who also set an extraordinary world record by batting for 51 hours in the nets.
In the process, Eric also broke the record of former English cricketer Alby Shale who batted for 26 hours at the Ken Barrington Cricket Centre in 2013. He also batted for raising $ 1 million for the construction of the stadium.
The family of Uwamahoro is elated after her incredible performance and so is the government officials and the jubilant spectators. “At the start I was very strong but got weaker midway. However, the huge support around here kept me going strong and stronger till the end,” Uwamahoro was quoted as saying by KT Press.
