Woman withdraws assault case against Amit Mishra: In a surprising turn of events the woman who had filed a police complaint against Amit Mishra for an alleged assault, has decided to withdraw the case.
“Two days after lodging the complaint, I approached the police station and told them that I have in principle decided to withdraw the case,” the woman claimed, giving no specific reason for her decision. The lady had earlier complained that Mishra had physically and verbally abused her in a Bengaluru hotel last month.
“There was no pressure from any quarters, including the BCCI. I am surprised how the media picked up the case, I am waiting for Mishra to appear in the police station. We will amicably withdraw the case. We were friends. We fought, but continue to remain friends here after” the woman said.
Mishra was in Bengaluru last month for India’s pre-tour training camp for the South Africa series when he is believed to have met the woman. The leggie who is also part of the Indian squad for the first two Tests against South Africa, was given a week’s time on Wednesday to report to the police.
Mishra was booked under the Indian Penal Code sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 328 (causing hurt with intent to commit an offence). The police said they had collected CCTV footage from the hotel that showed Mishra assaulting the woman. The police also said the incident took place in front of the hotel’s staff members who have testified in the case.
The India tweaker has been in fine form with the ball in the ODI series and also displayed his all-round skills on the recent tour of Sri Lanka.
