The Women’s Big Bash League 2022 marks the eighth edition of the elite top flight tournament in Australia that features global female cricketers. Eight teams have participated in the competition since the inaugural edition held in 2015.
The teams featuring the marquee tournament in the domestic circuit playing for the coveted title are- Perth Scorchers Women (PS-W), Brisbane Heat Women (BH-W), Adelaide Strikers Women (AS-W), Hobart Hurricanes Women (HH-W), Sydney Sixers Women (SS-W), Sydney Thunder Women (ST-W) Melbourne Renegades Women (MR-W) and Melbourne Stars Women (MS-W). Just four of these eight teams have been successful in lifting the prestigious title as per the Women’s Big Bash League Stats and history.
The Australian Cricket Board has helped unearth fresh talent from the roots and given them a platform to etch their names in history. Perth Scorchers Women (PS-W) relished an impressive season in the previous year’s edition as they clinched their maiden WBBL title.
The competition follows a double round robin format with all the teams playing each other twice before entering the knockout fixtures. The side topping the Women’s Big Bash League Points Table will reach one step closer to the trophy as they automatically qualify for the finals. Whereas teams ranked in the 3rd and 4th places will lock horns in an ‘Eliminator match’ to further get into the ‘Challenger match’ with the number 2 team. Furthermore, the winner of the Challenger match plays the side topping the group in the finals of the WBBL.
A total of 56 matches will be played in the league stages commencing from October 13 and will go on till November 20 and the finals to be played on November 27th.
