After garnering huge success with the BBL, Cricket Australia was the frontrunner in starting the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) — the world's first top-tier T20 league. Soon since the launch, the league gained massive traction, as players and fans around the globe joined in to witness some nail-biting cricketing action between the best of female cricketers globally, who chased glory Down Under.
Later, another Sydney-based side, Sydney Sixers, were eventually the winners for a couple of seasons straight. Later on, Brisbane Heat repeated the Sixers' feat to win the 2018-19 and 2019–20 seasons. Thunder's women returned in 2020-21 season to bag their second title by beating Melbourne Stars in the finale. After six seasons, the league saw its fourth winner, with Perth Scorchers claiming their maiden silverware in 2021-22. The next couple of seasons belonged to Adelaide Strikers, as the side seemed unstoppable throughout 2022-23 and 2023-24 to equal the record for joint-most titles.
In 2024-25, it was time for Melbourne Renegades, who made it to the finals for the first time, and beat two-time winners from Brisbane to make the trophy theirs.
WBBL 2025 Edition Winner
The 2025 season belonged to Hobart Hurricanes Women, as the side lifted the WBBL title for the first time, marking it a historic moment for the side. The side started their tournament in a brilliant fashion, collecting a staggering 15 points at the end of the league stage with a massive win tally of seven out of the ten games that they played. Courtesy of finishing as the table-toppers, the Hurricanes also earned a direct entry into the finals, where they beat the Perth Scorchers Women by eight wickets and 30 balls to spare.
