As the league stage of the Women’s T20 Challenge 2022 has successfully concluded, the Supernovas are set to meet Velocity in the finals. All three teams – Trailblazers, Supernovas, and Velocity – played two games in the league stage, and all of them won and lost one each. But the two-time champions Supernovas and Velocity had a higher net run rate (NRR) and thus qualified for the finals.
Supernovas defeated Trailblazers in the first game of the tournament, followed by Velocity defeating the Supernovas in the second, and Trailblazers scalping their first win by defeating Velocity in the third league match. Supernovas posted big totals in both their games and as a result had a higher NRR.
After posting a total of 190 runs, Trailblazers needed to restrict Velocity to a score below 158 runs. While Velocity lost the game, they managed to score 174 and knocked out the defending champions. While the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Supernovas aim for their third title, the Deepti Sharma-led Velocity eye for their maiden title under their new captain.
Pitch Conditions
The MCA pitch will witness a high-scoring thriller in the finale and has a lot to offer for both batters and the bowlers. All three games so far have witnessed big scores being put in the first innings. In the recent match hosted by the stadium, Trailblazers scored a whopping 190 runs, the highest total in the history of the tournament. With the batters having an advantage, the team batting first would put up 150-170 runs on board.
Playing Combinations for Supernovas vs Velocity
Supernovas
Supernovas have got a great lineup and a fine batting order. The team would need openers Priya Punia and Deandra Dottin to stay longer and punch some big shots in the powerplay. Harleen Deol and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur are in great form and can easily anchor the innings in the middle while Pooja Vastrakar and Sophie Ecclestone will be expected to repeat their heroics from previous games.
Probable Playing XI: Priya Punia, Deandra Dottin, Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Sune Luus, Alana King, Pooja Vastrakar, Sophie Ecclestone, Taniya Bhatia (wk), Meghna Singh, V Chandu.
Velocity
The team can make a few changes in the batting order, as they can send Laura Wolvaardt to open. The previous game witnessed Kiran Navgire score a brilliant half-century on debut while batting at the top. To get a big total on board, or to chase down a huge target, Velocity can try the combination of Shafali Verma, Wolvaardt, and Navgire in the top order, thereby keeping Yastika Bhatia, Deepti Sharma, and Sneh Rana in the middle.
Probable Playing XI: Shafali Verma, Laura Wolvaardt, Kiran Navgire, Yastika Bhatia (wk), Deepti Sharma (c), Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav, Kate Cross, Ayabonga Khaka, Simran Bahadur, Natthakan Chantham.
