The Trailblazers will be locking horns with the Supernovas in the first game of the Women’s T20 Challenge 2022 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on May 23. The Smriti Mandhana-led Trailblazers are the defending champions, having deprived the Supernovas of a third straight title triumph in the 2020 edition. The tournament could not be organised last year due to a sudden rise in COVID-19 cases in India.

The Supernovas, on the other hand, are the most successful side in the tournament, having won in 2018 and 2019. They have been led brilliantly by India women’s T20I skipper Harmanpreet Kaur. Both the teams have a star-studded line-up, including some excellent Indian and overseas players, which would make this curtain-raiser a delight to watch.

Pitch and conditions

Usually, the wicket at the MCA Stadium is a good batting surface, however, with many IPL games being played at this venue in the past couple of months, the surface might have slowed down, which could make batting difficult in the second innings. Therefore, the captain winning the toss will be looking to chase.
