The third and final game of the 2020 Women’s T20 challenge witnessed a thrilling affair between Trailblazers and Supernovas. The game went right down to the wire and in the end, the Supernovas, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, emerged victorious by two runs. With this victory, Supernovas have finalized a berth for themselves in the final of the league against Trailblazers.
In this do-or-die fixture, the toss went in the favour of Supernovas and they elected to bat first. The opening batter Priya Punia initially struggled to get going but her counterpart Chamari Athapaththu ensured that the scoreboard kept ticking. The two collected an 89-run opening stand, with Salma Khatun giving the first breakthrough to Trailblazers.
The skipper Harmanpreet, who came to bat at Number 3 and Chamari started hitting and the two scored 31 off 29 and 67 runs off 48 deliveries respectively. However, the Supernovas were hit with some bad luck as their three players got run-out at the fag end of the innings and the team had to settle for a total of 146 in 20 overs.
Radha Yadav scripts victory for Supernovas
The Trailblazers started well courtesy of an opening wicket stand of 44 runs between Deandra Dottin and Smriti Mandhana. While Dottin smashed 27 runs off 15 deliveries, the captain smriti scored 33 off 40 deliveries. However they started losing wickets after 6th over and as a result, the run rate started piling up.
Pacer Shakera Selman named the priced wicket of Dottin, giving a much-needed breakthrough to her team along with getting Richa Ghosh, who came to bat at Number 3, out in the same over. The equation was finally down to 56 runs from the last five overs when Deepti Sharma and Harleen Deol joined hands. The two started hitting boundaries and took singles or doubles to ensure that they shift the momentum towards their side.
In the end, the game became exciting as Trailblazers needed ten runs off the last six deliveries by spinner Radha Yadav. Radha gave six runs off the first four balls but took the wicket of Harleen on the very next ball to dash the hopes of Trailblazers. Owing to the heroics of Radha, the Supernovas cliched the match by 2 runs.
Apart from her brilliant bowling performance, the left-arm orthodox spinner made headlines for other reasons too. After picking Harleen’s wicket in the final over, Radha got excited and was caught swearing “Be***c**d” on camera.
