Women’s World Cup 2022: Here’s how the points table stands after New Zealand- India clash
Post their loss, India has slipped to fifth position in the points table.
The home side, New Zealand, has registered their second win in the ongoing Women’s World Cup. Their win came against the 2017 runners-up, India, at the Seddon Park in Hamilton. On the back of the win, New Zealand has now risen to the second position on the points table.
Having put in to bat by India, New Zealand rode on Amy Satterthwaite and Amelia Kerr’s half-centuries to post a total of 260-9 at the end of their 50 overs. While Satterthwaite scored 75 off 84, Kerr consolidated 50 runs in 64 balls. Pooja Vastrakar recorded match figures of 4/34 for India.
In their pursuit to chase down the score, the Indian openers started slowly. Their star opener, Smriti Mandhana, fell early in the innings with the team never really finding their way in the chase. Harmanpreet Kaur played a good knock scoring 71 off 63 and was the only silver lining for India with the bat before the team was dismissed for 198 thus losing the game by 62 runs.
India slip to 5th
Post their loss, India has dropped down the points table and now take the number five slot with two points so far. Australia with two wins in two games sits comfortably at the top of the table with four points. Behind them are New Zealand, West Indies and South Africa with two, two and one wins respectively. England, Bangladesh and Pakistan take the sixth, seventh and eighth spot on the points table respectively with them all losing each of their two games in the tournament so far.
The next game in the tournament will see Pakistan take on South Africa in Mount Maunganui on March 11th. India’s next game will be against the West Indies on March 12th while New Zealand face Australia in Wellington on March 13th.
